![]() With the border once again open to non-essential travel and discovering that it was only a six-and-a-half hour drive, I picked Québec, found tickets and then asked my buddy Bruce if he had his passport. But looking at the tour schedule, I started eyeing Québec City and Ottawa at the start of the second North American leg. I had already seen Pearl Jam this year in Glendale, Ariz., and I wasn’t planning on catching them again. Still, this particular trip came together relatively quickly. I’m still upset that I never got to see a game at the old Colisée de Québec, and maybe a little more upset at the fact that the Nordiques still haven’t returned to the NHL despite building the Centre Vidéotron. To say that a trip to Québec City has always been on my radar would be a dramatic understatement. It certainly is, and I was incredibly thankful I got to drop in and get a taste for it. That it included the opportunity to experience a city like this put the entire trip over the top.Īs Eddie Vedder told the crowd, most of whom had waited two and a half years for this night, Québec is a gem. And after some last-minute wrangling, a few hours in the car and a few more hours of navigating Québec’s endless vertical inclines on foot, we were on the precipice of another show in the books. ![]() Pearl Jam opened up the third and final leg of the 2022 Gigaton tour in Québec City’s Centre Vidéotron, returning to North American following a mid-summer swing in Europe. ![]() Crossing borders and making connections with Pearl Jam in QuébecĬhalk it up to puritanical conditioning, but in the late afternoon this past Thursday, I was blown away that I was sitting on a bench on the lawn outside a hockey arena, openly enjoying a beer and the company of some like-minded folks, talking music, sports, the pros and cons of various cities and, of course, Pearl Jam.

Yankees and Red Sox Betting Trends My best bet: Clarke Schmidt Under 4.New York’s Clarke Schmidt and Boston’s Brayan Bello have been named the starters for this contest. This strikeout avoidance is likely to continue against Schmidt, a pitcher whom this current Boston lineup possesses a mere 19.4 Whiff% against through 60 career plate appearances. Looking at Wednesday’s projected starting lineup, five of the nine hitters possess a strikeout rate south of 20% this year. This lineup also does a good job at avoiding strikeouts, ranking seventh in K% when facing right-handed pitching. Entering this game, the Red Sox rank in the Top 7 of the league in runs scored per game, hits per game, batting average, slugging, and OPS. While Boston’s season has not gone entirely as planned, it is certainly not its lineup’s fault. These strikeout woes are likely to continue against the Boston Red Sox, a team against whom he has recorded four or fewer strikeouts two of his three career starts. ![]() The right-hander also ranks in the 45th percentile or lower in both K% and whiff rate, which is the avenue that we will take to bet against Schmidt in this contest.Ĭurrently, you can find his strikeout prop at 4.5, a number he has stayed Under in 10 of his past 17 starts. Ruination was recorded in the summer of 2016 at Tonehaven Studios producer Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu, Grave Pleasures) at the helm and Tom Brooke recording and mixing. On Ruination the curiously named quartet heads further, beyond the point of no return, into their own world of sound, where power chords, arpeggios and quirky vocal harmonies flow. ![]() Though often bundled with the shoegazer movement, Kairon IRSE!'s music has since the beginning been a rare bird inside the scene: it rings out with a different tone, and already on the first album the influence of classic progressive rock was evident. Whereas the debut album was largely born out of improvisation and jam sessions, Ruination is the fruit of two years of careful composing and arranging work, taking control of the chaos. The band describe their music as an appreciation of the ideas and overall mentality of experimental pop musicians of the 60s and 70s, combined with a modern approach and original musical vision. ![]() Titled Ruination, the album will be released by Svart Records in February 2017 on CD, double LP and digital. Luckily, studies have also shown an effective way to break out of the avoidance cycle: shrink whatever it is you're putting off down to a tiny, unintimidating first step. So we turn to Twitter or Netflix instead to boost our mood, if only temporarily. It's uncomfortable to stare down a big task or project - one you may not be sure how to even do or one that involves a lot of uncertainty. Rather, we put things off to avoid negative feelings. Research has shown that procrastination has little to do with laziness or lack of self-control. Here's what makes the method uniquely suited to boosting productivity: Making it easy to just get started The arbitrary silliness of using a tomato as a stand-in for units of time belies the Pomodoro Technique's serious effectiveness in helping people get things done. The Pomodoro technique is all about getting your mind in the zone to finish your tasks. If the system seems simple, that’s because it is. ![]() Keep an "Overlearning" project in Todoist with a list of tasks you can quickly choose from the next time you find yourself with pomodoro time to spare. For example, you could spend the extra time reading up on professional journals or researching networking opportunities. Use the rest of your time for overlearning, or improving skills or scope of knowledge. The rule applies even if you finish your task before the timer goes off. Cirillo recommends that you track interruptions (internal or external) as they occur and reflect on how to avoid them in your next session. In the event of an unavoidable disruption, take your five-minute break and start again. A digital task manager like Todoist is a great place for these, but pen and paper will do, too. Any ideas, tasks, or requests that come up should be noted to return to later. The pomodoro is an indivisible unit of time and can not be broken, especially not to check incoming emails, team chats, or text messages. For example, "write rent check," "set vet appointment," and "read Pomodoro article" could go together in one session. Any tasks that will take less than one Pomodoro should be combined with other simple tasks. Sticking to this rule will help ensure you make clear progress on your projects. If a task requires more than four pomodoros, it needs to be divided into smaller, actionable steps. The 25-minute work sprints are the core of the method, but a Pomodoro practice also includes three rules for getting the most out of each interval:īreak down complex projects. When your session ends, mark off one pomodoro and record what you completed.Īfter four pomodoros, take a longer, more restorative 15-30 minute break. Set your timer for 25 minutes, and focus on a single task until the timer rings. ![]() Though Cirillo went on to write a 130-page book about the method, its biggest strength is its simplicity: Encouraged by the challenge, he found a tomato (pomodoro in Italian) shaped kitchen timer, and the Pomodoro technique was born. Feeling overwhelmed, he asked himself to commit to just 10 minutes of focused study time. Cirillo was struggling to focus on his studies and complete assignments. The Pomodoro Technique was developed in the late 1980s by then-university student Francesco Cirillo. Take the quiz Explore on your own What is the Pomodoro Technique? Sometimes these can be so severe they are untreatable, fortunately they are rare. They rapidly spread over large areas and appear as a mixture of nodules, warts and ulcerated areas, often large bundles. Malevolent sarcoids are the most aggressive type. Malevolent/malignant Sarcoid – aggressive – may spread along the path of veins or lymph vessels. Note also an occult sarcoid on the inner thigh Right: nodular sarcoids and an ulcerating fibroblastic sarcoid on the sheath. Left: Multiple ulcerated sarcoids between the hind legs. They are commoner in geldings than mares and most cases are initially seen in horses aged 3-6years. Mixed Sarcoids – An individual horse may have just one type of sarcoid, whilst another horse may have a mixture of several types. They can look like an ulcerated “bunch of grapes”. May occur at the site of wounds as well as on the face and legs. They can turn into fibroblastic sarcoids if traumatised.įibroblastic Sarcoid – have fleshy, ulcerated appearance so bleed easily. These can frequently be lifted clear of underlying structures. Often found between front or back legs, on the ears or sheath and may be single or multiple. Occult sarcoids – inner thigh(L) and sheath(R) They are subtle lesions and can be difficult to spot. They can thicken and may become crusty or bleed. Occult sarcoid – flat areas often found on the face, sheath or inner thighs. These often start as hairless or de-pigmented (pale) areas mimicking ring worm or tack rubs. Research is ongoing to try and clarify this virus theory. One of the commonest supported theories is that sarcoids are caused by a cattle wart virus (bovine papilloma virus) which is spread by flies. These are sites commonly frequented by flies. Sarcoids are commonly found around the eyes, sheath, mammary glands, inner thighs and between the front legs. ![]() Some types of sarcoid your vet will be confident to identify just on its appearance and advise accordingly. Sometimes samples will need to be taken so that a lump can be identified, because different types of growth need different treatment. There are many types of sarcoid and also other types of skin tumour too. But they can be a major inconvenience and on occasion stop a horse from working. But now for some better news: equine sarcoids, unlike some other types of cancer, very rarely spread to other organs in the body, so it is also extremely rare for them to be life threatening. Simplistically small ones are easier to deal with then large ones. This all sounds very sinister, so we need to be sensible, lumps and growths should not be ignored. It can be devastating because it can damage normal working parts of the body by squashing them, destroying them or altering their function. Cancer sounds so serious, what does this mean? Cancer is a purposeless multiplication of cells which creates an abnormal mass or lump. However, their most common type of cancer or tumour is a sarcoid which is a type of skin growth. Horses generally have a low rate of cancer. There are many such services that seem to really fit the bill, at least on paper (see our best online backup for home guide for examples). Sloth bears are typically active for about eight to 14 hours each day, and they do not hibernate. They have a keen sense of smell, as well as near-sight similar to that of humans. During hibernation, bats cycle through periods of torpor interrupted by brief periods of arousal when their body temperatures return to normal for a few hours.
